Dr. Mel Tomeo
Mel Tomeo holds a tenured position as an Assistant Professor within the School of Engineering and Technology at Miami Dade College (MDC), where his primary focus is teaching Game Development and Computer Programming classes. He also serves as the lead instructor for MDC’s Game Development associate degree program and works as an adjunct instructor at various online colleges.
In 2015, Mel secured his first full-time teaching role at Pittsburgh Technical College (PTC), where he undertook the task of teaching Game Development and Computer Programming. Notably, he spearheaded the redesign of the curriculum to incorporate the latest industry technologies based on feedback from student internships.
His educational journey began with an associate degree in Computer Information Systems from Luzerne County Community College (LCCC), followed by a bachelor’s degree in Digital Forensics and a master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University (BU). Continuing his academic pursuit, Mel earned a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University (NSU).
From a young age of 11, Mel developed a keen interest in Computer Networking and Software, evident through his proficiency in various programming languages such as Java, C++, and C#. He has guided numerous students in publishing mobile apps on platforms like the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and has played a pivotal role in mentoring students in the creation of diverse 2D, 3D, and VR games at Miami Dade College.
Mel boasts a robust background in teaching Information Technology classes, ranging from introductory to advanced computer programming courses. With over a decade of teaching experience, he has established himself as a diligent and dedicated educator with a solid educational foundation and a genuine passion for teaching. Mel’s leadership is characterized by his intelligence, motivation, and exemplary work ethic.
